Jason And The Argonauts

When a hero embarks on a journey back in Ancient Greece, most of them fit into the cycle of the hero, developed by Joseph Campbell. It basically outlines the life of the hero, and looking if there's any changes of the hero before and after the quest. Many features from the chronicle of Jason and the Argonauts, fit into this cycle. Aspects such as...

Birth/Home: Ioclus, the rightful king of the throne, had a son named Jason. One day, Jason's uncle, Pelias, made an excuse that Ioclus was too old to be the king, so he was the one whom had stolen the throne from his father and claimed the kingdom. Just in case, Jason's mother kept a quite distance away from Pelias for if he heard about Jason's existence, he would never hesitate to order someone to murder him. He didn't want Jason to take the throne after him.

Call To Adventure: As Jason grew older, he was despirate to take over the throne. So one day, he confronted Pelias and ordered him to return the throne. In response, Pelias stated that he had to show bravery to become the next king heir. The journey was for Jason to bring him the Golden Fleece, then the kingdom would be all his.

Elixir: Jason's elixir was getting the Golden Fleece. It was the only thing he was searching for, and all his intention was on getting the Golden Fleece. He was determined, and he will not let anything stop him from reaching his ambition. Even though there are many interpretations in between.

Helpers: The helpers for Jason's journey in the cartoon, was the Argonauts and Chiron. The Argonauts were a group of powerful people, such as Hercules, The wind brothers, and Atalanta. Each one of them were a big help to Jason, and it couldn't be possible without them, and without them, the quest would have never been completed. The argonauts help Jason get the Golden Fleece and retrieve his rightful place as the king.

Crossing The Threshold: As he journeys to reach the Golden Fleece, Jason and the Argonauts have to get through the Black Sea and onwards to the kingdom which was ruled by the King Aeëtes. In the sea, they had to battle against the strong currents, and get over the obstacles, and those obstacles were made by Medea, the king Aeëtes' daughter.

Helpers/Amulet: Chiron, Chiron's sword, and the Argonauts were Jason's helper and amulet. They all gave Jason a chance to fight and make him believe in himself that he can do it, when he's about to give up. They all make a pathway for Jason and sacrifices themselves just to help Jason get the Golden Fleece.

Tests: During the quest, Jason and the Argonauts went through tons of tests. Just like; the rocks and the strong currents in the sea, the fire-breathing bulls and the dragon who guarded the Golden Fleece. They had to go through many quests just to reach to the Golden Fleece.

Climax/Final Battle: In the cartoon, the climax of Jason and the Argonaut's journey was when the Argonauts were nearly dragged into the Underworld, and Jason had no other choice but to fight Medea to save them. And so he did. With Chiron's sword, he was able to kill Medea whom was in a form of a dragon. After that, the Argonauts were freed, and Jason was able to seize the Golden Fleece and run away.

Return/Flight: After all the fighting and struggling, Jason and the Argonauts traveled back to Jason's kingdom by sea smoothly, and prepared to take the throne away from Pelias. Jason had suceeded his quest and showed his bravery so he was ready, ready to be the king.

There are alot of different versions of this story but, there is also loads of evidence to support each fact and belief that the many essentials of Jason and the Argonauts are true and/or may have occurred before in the past, once. There is a possibility that the quest that Jason had been through could be true facts.

Facts and Proof from the documentary:

  • Mount Pelion; where Jason's journey takes place, does exist.

  • Jason and the Argonauts were the first to sail past the Black Sea; where it's very dangerous, with the strong currents and tides.

  • The first quest was on the real island of Lemnos, Greece.

  • Found the Bronze-Aged Palace of Jason; which obtained many artifacts and debris.

  • Georgia is the "Land Of The Golden Fleece".

  • Argo was the name of the boat; ancient techniques of making boats was used to craft the boat that Jason and the Argonauts used to sail through the Black Sea.

  • Istanbul is where they went.

  • Story occurred in the time of the Trojan War; which is a true event.

  • There were cave paintings of Jason and the Argonauts.

  • The exact cliff where the Lemnian women murdered their men, exist.

  • etc...

This journey is very factual.

OMG! Did you know this?

OMG! Did you know this?
By: Amy Kim – pink class

“Zeus darling are you somewhere there?” I can hear Hera searching for me within the soft, misty clouds of our M.O.M(-it means Mount Olympus Mansion). I thought that was the best place to hide even though others knew the place as well as I do... Those two clouds were very comforting. The clouds had the spectacular gift of talking. They would be soothing my emotions, imputing. I was still hiding between two big clouds, sweating for the heat of the sun was too hot. I thought ,"Those disgusting nasty rats on Earth don’t get how hard I work." But I thought there was another reason to it. Oh...I was also hiding here ALL on my own because, I was too embarrassed. Those measly rats down on Earth were telling-"BUUURRrrrrpppp!" burped one of the clouds. As the cloud patted its belly, he said,
"Sorry, I had a huge lunch. A bit TOO much...I guess..." Zeus screamed in a loud annoyed voice,
"II IS OK. JUST...JUST DON'T INTERUPT ME OUT EXTROVERTED YOU DARN MALICIOUS CLOUD! LET ME CONTINUE MY THOUGHT TRACKING AND ALSO LET ME CONTINUE ON MY PRECIOUS CONSPIRING TIME...Where was I?? Oh yes..." Those measly rats down on Earth were telling a big fat lie to the Gods that I was just so malevolent because I gave Pandora the box. Hah! You lot think you know the true story of what had happened? Let me tell you the TRUE story what had happened that day. I can remember it quite clearly and precisely. I WILL just ERRATICALLY DESTROY ALL HUMAN BEINGS SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY... They are TOO dumb to think the way I do. I think I am still the BEST of ALL gods, goddesses and those disgusting rats. Of course I am! I am the king of EVERYTHING... I will make them obey me forever...

Hera finally found me. She said, "Never mind about what had happened today. You know how easily you forget things... Anyways, they just don't know how great and loyal you are. Can you do something for me now darling?"I asked Hera “Does it have to be now?” Hera nodded fast. So I followed behind quickly; leaving his hatred thought of human behind, hidden within the clouds. Hera passed me an ancient old box from under her bed. Afterwords I set out for Pandora’s house. I gave it to her as a gift. I had just remembered that I left Aphrodite behind. I went to the same place I had left her; I notice she had left. I got bored so I watched what was going on earth when I saw Prometheus fighting about the box to Epimethius. I just knew Prometheus still hated me as I hated him too. Just because I tied him to the mountain peak and sent an eagle to eat his liver raw, he shouldn’t still hate me. Plus I just gave him the box, Hera sent me to give the box. I don’t even know what was in it. So before I gave the box to Pandora, I wanted to say sorry so I didn’t open it much but snuck in something called ‘hope’, not letting anything else go out. "Hee hee..." I thought to myself. I was happy for that I also loved Pandora as much as Prometheus did!!

Now, I see Epimethius and Prometheus go out of the shop and leaves cheerful Pandora behind. She was wandering around the filthy shop when she suddenly noticed the box on top of the closet. She began to be curious. She carefully gets the box from the top and she puts it on the table. I heard her say to herself “I will just shake it and listen to it and I swear that I will NOT open it.” So she shook it and listened to it. She could not hear a thing. I think she thought there was nothing in it and opened it. For I remembered Hera was jealous of her beauty, she must have put something very nasty in it. I heard Pandora's frightful scream. "Oh... Oh no... Oh my dear sweet little cupcake, I WILL save you!!" So I sped out to search for Pandora. But it was TOO late. She had opened the box and was it such a shock. She was on her poor weak knees screaming in fright as the bad things and bad creatures were set out of the box. Pandora had closed it quickly. I asked her whether if she saw a white beautiful thing flying away as well. She says she hadn’t. I asked her to open the box but she was too afraid. She opened it slowly and anxiously. She saw a little white thing at the corner of the box. She asked the thing “Who…What are you?” The thing replied “I am hope. I have to leave you now. I will set out onto the earth and overtake the bad things. Or else human will have no meaning to live.” So Pandora let her out. The ‘hope’ did a back flip and she sprang out the window and flew off. Pandora fainted of shock. I tucked my little cupcake in bed and before I left the sweet darling thing, my mind raced. I didn't know if I should or shouldn't. Anyways, I couldn't get to a proper solution so I picked the one that told me to do it- so I did... I closed my eyes and got closed to Pandora's warm bright face. I touched her cheeks- they were still very rosy. I gave her a light breath taking kiss. My mind was full of questions such as "Will she be OK?" or "Will she hate me for now onwards for giving her a small kiss?".Half an hour later when Prometheus and Epimethius came back, they saw the opened box and Pandora in bed. Prometheus ran over to Pandora and asked whether she was fine and she was. She told them she felt much better than before. They told the news article the story that you think you know well but it turns out to be that it was some misunderstanding or it could have been that the news article reporters thought this news was not so interesting and changed it a slight bit. Now you know… The true story of Pandora’s Box. You can now go to your friends and family and tell them, the real story of what happened. You MUST make sure that they DO gasp at the REAL story!!

Curiosity Paragraph DRAFT VERSION

Curiosity... Orphan boy and Pandora illustrate how curiosity can lead to disaster and change. I can prove that curiosity can lead to disaster and change because the story "Pandora" tells us that Pandora saw the mysterious box that was gifted by Zeus. She became curious. So she opened the mysterious box and let the bad things out of the box that would put a great effect on the world and made disaster and changes that would effect the world. She didn't expect that much. Also, in "orphan boy", the old man's curiosity overpowered him and he followed the orphan boy to see how he does his chores so fast when he was told not to. The orphan boy lost his trust for the old man, so the orphan boy left the old man and his crops and livestocks died out. This proves why curiosity can lead to disaster and change. On the other hand, this also proves that curiosity is very strong.

My Name-Amy

My name- Amy originates from France and England. It means beloved and graceful. I'm not quite sure if I am beloved or graceful. I think my name is a good, plain and easy name. It's easy and simple to remember. It has 3 syllables and 3 letters A-M-Y. Easy isn't it? I didn't know this but there was a little story behind my name. Let me tell you what the story is about.

When I was in kindergarten I heard this really great song and I enjoyed it so much and somewhere in the lyrics, there was an unusual but a sensible name; which was Amy. I believe my name is a nice name. I decided to have that name as my english name. I still like the name Amy. It's very unique. Sometimes people keep making fun of it but I don't really care. I like my name and that's all it matters. I don't regret picking my name at all.

This picture represents my name because, I feel like I am a cup holding all my love inside. It makes me feel important and doesn't let the love go away.

My Final Draft of Creation Myth

This picture of Phan Ku is from : https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9Rl9sTL8SwXoIJECzFBNHZu1HAzjrBUWcDvXFacTKglgyMGrzRsGYN5a8dEbwHhlv0FzIJG7k3Z1HGXpnb6lrjVzFT6x1_iEvzZsUhyUQOq_zHYyz4V2iuwEsTlrfGeEqhmxEaOmEq70/s1600-h/panku.jpg
“In the beginning there was chaos” –from the Chinese myth Phan Ku. Themes of chaos are at the centre of many creation myths which is quite amazing due to the fact that they all start in a chaotic state to something (nothing to something). Many cultures have creation myths which aren’t unique to their identity but at the same time contain common themes of creation of men which are also amazing due to the fact that the Raven the creator, Quat the creator, Death the creator and the god Ra the creator all created human beings and how things are nowdays. In fact that there are other similarities with creation myths such as Ta aroa the creator and Phan Ku the creator both came from the cosmic egg. Creation myths contain common element of sacrifice (even though gods don’t die), they sacrifice their selves and they end up somewhere where they can watch the humans-such as heaven, and even becoming the earth theirselves. These creation myths are fantastic because they are from the other parts of the world. Even though the cultures are so far apart they still seek for answers…

Monsieur Pivot on Horseback

"Every Journey starts with one step"

What do you think about the picture which was drawn by the artist, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot?
I picked 'Monsieur pivot on horseback' because it represents and symbolizes my quote. It looks like as if the man (M
onsieur Pivot) is going on a journey and as he takes one step, he looks back at his home. It looks as if he is longing to see the people that he had left to go on forward with his journey. He looks as if he feels nostalgic. His horse doesn't turn back and it appears to be feeling very devastated to leave wherever he was from. He shows as if he is baffled.

How does it link with our current topic?
This links in with our topic because the man (monsieur Pivot) is going on a journey to a mysterious, puzzling, strange, bizarre, perplexing, inexplicable place that he has never been to. This refers to my current topic; if you see he is steping a step or two forwards and looking back, it means that he wants to go back and not go on a journey after all. He looks like he has no choice to go but to go forward. This links to my quotation "Every Journey starts with one step" because he doesn't want to go but he's taking a step at a time. As my quote says, every journey WILL start with one (simple) step.
